Idiopathic Small Bowel Intussusception in Adults: Conservative Versus Surgical Management

Intussusception is a rare diagnosis in adults and generally has pathological cause. In this case report, we highlight an adult, male patient who presented with typical signs symptoms of intussusception, was subsequently confirmed imaging. After 24 hours no clinical improvement, the intussusception resolved through laparoscopic approach. No lead point or other cause identified that may have contributed to development intussusception. The idiopathic presentation scarcely represented scientific literature, making its best management practices vague leaving room for studies regarding surgical management. We conducted brief literature review adult cases found fewer than 25 documented since 2010. Our analysis revealed majority were method only about quarter conservatively managed supportive measures.
